Mojave Sands Motel at Joshua Tree is a desert motel located on Hwy 29
Palms about an hour east of Palm Springs in Joshua Tree, California.
The Joshua Tree National Park entrance is just a few miles from the
motel. Formerly named The Oleander, the motel was originally built in
1952. Blake Simpson, who moved to Joshua Tree from Texas, purchased the
motel in 2002 with a vision in mind to transform the motel. Hosting just
five rooms, two suites and three standard rooms, the motel was a labor
of love, sweat and tears as it took ten years to evolve into what it is
The motel is truly a unique and special place to stay. The doors,
windows, gates, and much of the furniture were all designed and built
on site. Each room has a private patio with benches and a fountain. The
common grounds are enclosed by solid sheets of rusted metal and salvaged
wood. As you enter a large reflecting pond is the centerpiece. There
are three outdoor fireplaces for night time enjoyment.
